This December for Constipation Awareness Month, IFFGD is shedding a light on common causes, prevention, and treatments. As well as promoting healthy conversations and lifestyle habits to support bowel movements.
Why Raise Awareness?
Chronic constipation affects up to 20% of adults and 16% of children in the United States resulting in more than 1.5 million healthcare provider visits each year. While common among all ages, genders, and populations; certain group —particularly women, older adults, and non-Caucasian individuals—are at a greater risk.
How You Can Get Involved
The more we work together to raise awareness for constipation, the greater our ability to impact change—such as additional research, increased educational opportunities, and improved patient care for the GI community. Here are a few things you can do to help educate others and raise awareness for constipation in your community:
